Next Big Thing!

Michael Thal is the author of two books that I have read and would recommend to the young crowd! If you are looking for meaningful, go for the tween read of Goodbye Tchaikovsky. For adventure and a book for the young middle grades, go with Koolura.
The Legend of Koolura:
Is about the metamorphosis of a pre-teen girl with extraordinary psychic powers overcoming a stalker bent on her destruction.

Goodbye Tchaikovsky:
A violin virtuoso is plunged into a deaf world, necessitating him to adapt to a new culture and language in order to survive.

The Next Big Thing

Myself and 7 up and coming authors through Solstice Publishing: Find websites, links, and contacts for a variety of genres below! Check it out!

1) What is the title of your next book/work?
Right now, I am taking author Michael Thal’s suggestion and titling my 3rd and final book in the Linked Through Time series “Destroyed in Time”

2) Where did the idea come from for the book/work?
The whole series started with stories of my father’s childhood. He grew up on a farm, poor and with lots of siblings. It makes for stories that never die and never grow old. Plus, it was a time without rules or safety- kids drove tractors that couldn’t see over the wheel, they shot guns, rode without seatbelts and had very little supervision. But all 11 survived and are pretty great people. It all makes me smile, even the tough stories. The place they grew up, people look at me and ask, “Why would you live there?” Baudette is a beautiful place-”God’s Country.”I go there to just be me!

3) What genre does your work fall under?
My books are in the YA category, under paranormal romance. They have hints of both categories, but overall, I just wanted to tell a story about the place I call home.

4) What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?
I really like Jennifer Lawrence for Kate. Although he is too old now, I would probably have cast Taylor Kitsch for Travis. I would love “Coach Taylor”/ aka Kyle Chandler from Friday Night Lights to play Dean, the father. Just absolutely love him! Not sure who to cast for the bad guy- Dave Slater. Has to be hot, with unbelievable blue eyes! Sarah is a main character as well, but has so many parts, she would have to be played by someone very talented- and good with make-up!

5) What is the one-sentence synopsis to explain where your work begins?
Kate, a self absorbed teen, learns true life lessons when she is transported back in time to take the place of her aunt; an aunt that dies mysteriously in the local river the very summer Kate arrives.

6) Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Solstice Publishing has taken on my first two books, Linked Through Time and Lost Through Time, so I am hoping they are willing to go the whole mile with me.

7) How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?
About 6 months. The third is going to take awhile since I have three kids in sports and school. Busy!

8) What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
I was obsessed with the Outlander series, which is why I brought time travel into the story. It’s not comparable by any means, but explains how I came around to this genre!

9) Who or what inspired you to write this book?
My husband pushed me to try, and the stories came from listening to my Dad over and over again. I will never tire of listening to him!

10) What else about the book might pique the reader¹s interest?
The sequel, Lost Through Time, takes a drastic twist at the end, making the third so hard to write. I love trying to surprise the reader, without leaving them too angry at the results. So far, so good!Find the series on amazon, barnes and noble, or through www.solsticepublishing.com. Like my page on facebook- Linked Through Time, or find me on twitter @jltornese

Name Contest

I am loving some of the entries coming through for the name contest. While some tend to lean toward a more traditional name, it is always great to see the adventurous, imaginative spirit in the unique name. Now the question is…what to with this new character?? The options are great and hard to choose just one…like a Lay’s Potato Chip! Remember, you can enter more than once. Thanks, as always, for the support!
